Venus
The play chronicles the unexpected—and devastating—rise to fame of Baartman, who traveled from southern Africa to London. She became known as “Hottentot Venus” and was paraded on the freak-show circuit. The play also details her relationship with a French scientist, before dying in 1815 where her body is then studied by said scientist.
Mort
Death comes to us all. When he came to Mort, he offered him a job. After being assured that being dead was not compulsory, Mort accepted. However, he soon found that romantic longings did not mix easily with the responsibilities of being Death's apprentice.
