Tara Froehlich

The play chronicles the unexpected—and devastating—rise to fame of Baartman, who traveled from southern Africa to London. She became known as “Hottentot Venus” and was paraded on the freak-show circuit. The play also details her relationship with a French scientist, before dying in 1815 where her body is then studied by said scientist.
